Monmouth County Honors FMERA for Economic Development

In recognition of National Economic Development Week, observed May 8 through May 14, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders unanimously passed a resolution commending the economic development efforts of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA).

The resolution pointed to the fact that “FMERA has attracted over 1,000 jobs to Fort Monmouth and facilitated the investment of over $125 million into the county’s economy.”

It also states, “FMERA’s economic development activities are projected to attract, retain and create 10,000 permanent jobs, double the number lost when the Fort closed in 2011, and yield public and private sector investments in Monmouth County totaling $1.5 billion.”

In announcing the resolution, Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, the County’s representative on the FMERA Board, noted, “extraordinary progress has occurred in converting Fort Monmouth into a multiplex of housing, technology, retail, education and recreation. The economic impact when Fort Monmouth closed was significant, but due to the aggressive marketing efforts of FMERA, much has been accomplished. The mixed use development strategy is working and the interest and commitments from the private sector are encouraging.”
