The Fort Monmouth Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014, is located on the Main Post of Fort Monmouth in Oceanport. In addition to the property on the Main Post, the Guidelines provide recommendations and information on Gibbs Hall, the historic clubhouse on the Golf Course in Eatontown.

PPG worked with FMERA staff and the Historic Preservation Staff Advisory Committee (HPSAC), chaired by the late Robert Ades, to create the guidelines, which the Authority began using earlier this year to make informed, consistent recommendations about proposed new construction and alterations to buildings and sites in the Fort’s Historic District. The preservation of the historic properties is required in accordance with the Programmatic Agreement between the Army and the State’s Historic Preservation Officer, signed in October 2009, as well as the Land Use Rules for Fort Monmouth passed in 2013. Approved by the FMERA Board at its March meeting, the Guidelines include recommendations consistent with those utilized and promoted by the National Park Service to ensure uniformity in the process throughout the country.

“PPG worked tirelessly and meticulously to create guidelines that FMERA will use in the months and years ahead to facilitate redevelopment of the Fort’s Historic District,” FMERA Deputy Executive Director Dave Nuse said. “We commend them on this well-deserved recognition from the NJPO, and we want to recognize the efforts by the HPSAC and Chairman Ades in guiding the creation of this award-winning document. We are glad that Chairman Ades was able to cast a vote approving the Guidelines before his untimely passing.”

PPG and other award recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Somerset Hills Hotel in Warren, New Jersey on September 18.
