Fitness Center in Oceanport Sold as FMERA Marks Sixth Closing in 2017
The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) took another step in bringing amenities to the former Fort Monmouth with the closing on the sale of the Fitness Center building and associated property in Oceanport.
“The renovated Fitness Center will be a vital part of the live-work-play community developing at Fort Monmouth,” said Candice Valente, FMERA’s Manager of Planning & Development.
Fort Partners Group, LLC, purchased the 7.4-acre property on September 21, which includes former Building 114, the 32,000- square-foot Fitness Center. The company is an assignee of FM Partners, LLC, which was approved by the FMERA Board for purchase of the property at its June 2015 meeting. The company plans to renovate and upgrade the facility to emphasize basketball, fitness, and swimming programs, medically based fitness and wellness programs, and individualized and group training and classes, along with related and ancillary uses including a pro shop and health café.
The partnership group, led by Chris Champeau, Dave Callahan and Scott Marchakitus, will begin renovations this fall with the goal of opening to the public by the summer of 2018. “We plan to create a high-end family-friendly fitness club focusing on health and wellness, youth athletics and small group training.”
