Regional Development Group Purchases Dance Hall, Plans to Create Community Gathering Spot
Regional Development Group, LLC purchased the 4.2-acre Dance Hall in Oceanport from the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) this March. The developers plan to create a place for locals, workers, and community members to enjoy a conversation, grab a warm coffee or perhaps imbibe.
Known for its work in Asbury Park, Regional Development Group has proposed an adaptive reuse of the 16,420-square-foot building for a microbrewery, coffee house and a dynamic, multipurpose indoor/outdoor dining and event space. The interior of the space features an open floor plan with an exposed wood truss ceiling that adds a stylish visual aesthetic, yet maintains the building’s historic charm. The developer has also committed to the beautification and maintenance of Van Kirk Park, adjacent to the Dance Hall, which will remain open space.
“We’re looking to attract a new wave of tech innovators, creative thinkers, and engaged citizens to the campus we’re creating at Fort Monmouth,” said FMERA Senior Marketing & Development Officer Sarah Giberson. “Diversifying the Fort’s redevelopment will give us an opportunity to be competitive with vibrant, nearby towns and even New York City. Access to culture, specialty food and drink, and quality outdoor space are all a part of the equation.”
